Functional Appliances
SAGITTAL DESIGN
The Sagittal is a removable functional appliance offering unilateral or bilateral distalization of the molars or the entire posterior using small screws embedded in acrylic parallel to the Sagittal plane and buccal line angle. The Sagittal can be fabricated for the upper, lower, or both depending upon the course of treatment. The Sagittal should be worn 24 hours a day, especially during mealtime.
Our standard upper Sagittal consists of Adams clasps on the first bicuspids and first molars, and one or two 5mm sectional screws embedded in acrylic. The upper Sagittal will have cuts made in the acrylic distal to the cuspids and posterior acrylic bite blocks. Our standard lower Sagittal consists of .030” stainless steel “C” clasps on the cuspids, Adams clasps on the first molars, and one or two 5mm sectional screws embedded in acrylic, with the acrylic cuts made between the bicuspids. We offer a variety of different wires sizes and types, clasping, and a smaller 3.5mm sectional screw is available to the meet the needs of your patient and their treatment.
SCHWARZ DESIGN
The Schwarz is a removable functional appliance offering transverse expansion. The Schwarz can be fabricated for an upper, lower, or both depending upon course of treatment. The Schwarz appliance should be worn 24 hours a day for optimal results, only removing for meals, brushing, or playing contact sports. A key is included with the appliance for proper activation as prescribed.
Our standard upper Schwarz consists of a .030” stainless steel, cuspid to cuspid labial bow with .028” stainless steel ball clasps between the bicuspids, Adams clasps on the first molars, and a 7.5mm double pin expansion screw embedded in acrylic. Acrylic bite blocks can also be added to the posterior for cases needing disarticulation. Our standard lower Schwarz consists of a .030” stainless steel, cuspid to cuspid labial bow with .028” stainless steel ball clasps between the bicuspids, Adams clasps on the first molars, a .032” stainless steel lingual support wire, and a 7.5mm single pin expansion screw embedded in acrylic. We also offer a variety of different wire sizes and types, clasping, and a smaller 5mm expansion screw is available to meet the needs of your patient and their treatment.
