Holding Appliances
NANCE BUTTON
The Nance appliance consists of a lingual arch extended into the palate and soldered to molar bands. The palate extension is covered in an acrylic “button” and keeps the wires from contacting the tissue. This Nance appliance prevents mesial molar drift and can be fabricated to position the first molars by rotating, buccalizing, lingualizing or maintaining the current position. This appliance is available in both fixed and removable designs.
Appliance shown with adjustment loops (optional).
TRANSPALATAL ARCH (TPA)
Our standard Transpalatal Arch (TPA) is constructed with a custom bent .036 wire with a center “omega” loop. The wire can either be soldered to bands on the first molars or used in conjunction with lingual sheaths on removable designs. Fixed designs can be used passively or slight adjustments can be used to rotate or widen the molars.
LINGUAL HOLDING ARCH
The Lingual Holding Arch arch, also known as a LLHA, consists of a lingual arch wire that touches all of the teeth that is soldered to bands. Adjustment loops are inserted mesial to the molars. This is a passive appliance designed to maintain the current position of the teeth and to prevent drifting of the permanent molars after the second primary molars have been lost. This appliance is available in both fixed and removable designs.
Standard design includes a set of adjustment loops mesial to the bands.
FIXED BITE PLATE
The Fixed Bite Plate appliance is used to treat deep bite cases while still allowing the posterior teeth to erupt. The appliance is made with .036 wire and soldered to the molar bands. The occlusion is checked while pouring acrylic using an articulator, so including a lower model or scan is encouraged.
SPACE MAINTAINER (BAND & LOOP)
Space Maintainers, also known as a Band-and-Loop, are fixed passive appliances designed to maintain space created by loss or extraction of teeth. This appliance consists of a .036” wire contoured to the adjacent tooth and is looped back and soldered to a band or crown.
SPACE REGAINER
Space Regainers are similar to Space Maintainers but are instead spring loaded. This appliance consists of a .036” wire contoured to the adjacent tooth and is looped back through tubes that are welded band or crown. An open coil spring is placed to place active force on the wire in order to regain space that may have been lost by a drifting molar.
